The Challenge
When I began designing Culture Happy, I saw that most wellness tools approached happiness piece meal - meditation apps, fitness trackers, or mood journals. Happiness doesn't come from improving just one part of life. It's the sum of many interconnected practice or habits like incorporating movement, eating healthy, tending relationships and even intentional breaks. The challenge was to design a product that helps people cultivate happiness as a daily lifestyle, not a one-dimensional routine or quick tip generator.
My Role
I led the comprehensive design from researching psychology and behavioral constructs, to visual and creative direction then finally coding the interactive prototype. My goal was to create a multi-faceted, emotionally supportive product that guide users through intentional activities across areas of well-being.
Key Initiatives Included
- Daily Happiness Practice: Micro-activities covering movement, nourishment, mindfulness, relationships, rest and small joys.
- Happiness Interface: Research backed sceneries and sounds that sparks joy.
- Lightweight and Informational: Frictionless and streamlined guidance on how to cultivate happiness.
- Immersive Microsite: Developed multi-sensory microsite using sounds and captivating scenery to guide users toward happiness.
The Transformation
During prototyping and user walkthroughs, Culture Happy showed strong resonance with people seeking a more integrated approach to well-being.
Users Reported:
- Higher Engagement when users combined at least two happiness pathways per day
- Clearer self-awareness thanks to reflection prompts tied to daily actions
- Improved consistency with guided rituals and balanced habit suggestions
Users described the experience as supportive, grounding and refreshingly non-judgemental, a tool that made happiness feel achievable through small steps.
Impact
Instead of relying on static concept boards and screens, I built a fully coded experience. A prototype that brought Culture Happy's design language to life:
- Creative animations for transitions, habit completions and mood reflections
- Sound design helped elevate the immersive environment
- Interactive design elements incorporated to make the information engaging and easy to explore
Key Takeaway
Culture Happy demonstrates that happiness is a balance of everyday habits. By integrating movement, nutrition, meditation, relationships, rest, and moments of joy into a single guided system, it helps users build a sustainable approach to well-being. Fully coded with animation and sound, the site brings this vision to life, offering an immersive, interactive experience that users can explore naturally.
